Areas of Expertise & Focus

Reproductive Mental Health
Women’s Mental Health
Racial/Cultural Issues
Highly Sensitive Persons/Empaths
Working Professionals
In my practice, I prioritize an intersectional approach that acknowledges and respects the diverse identities and experiences of individuals, particularly within the LGBTQIA+ community. This involves understanding how various social categories, such as race, gender, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status, intersect and affect one's mental health and well-being.
Cultural humility is central to my therapeutic philosophy. It involves an ongoing process of self-reflection and learning, recognizing that I remain open to understanding the unique cultural contexts of each client. This approach fosters trust and encourages clients to share their experiences in a safe and affirming environment.
By integrating intersectionality and cultural humility into my work, I aim to empower clients to explore their identities, navigate challenges, and cultivate resilience. I believe that each person's story is multi-faceted and deserves a thoughtful and nuanced approach in therapy, allowing for a more tailored and effective healing journey.

How do I know if we're a good fit?
I’ve worked with lots of people from various walks of life in different settings. Some of those include children with neurodevelopmental disorders implementing reading interventions to evaluating adults in neurological clinics. I’ve also worked within the state of TX incarceration system and in other private practices focusing on reproductive and women’s health care. My research has also centered around women’s mental health and health related behaviors. Clients generally enjoy working with me when they are highly motivated and dedicated to the therapeutic process, are seeking clarification on whether they (or their child) have a mental health related diagnoses, or if they need assistance with psycho-education and identifying resources that could assist them. Previous clients describe me as calm, nonjudgmental, welcoming, warm, and effective in helping them achieve desired change.
Can I talk to you before committing to therapy?
Sure! I offer a free, 15-minute consultation so I can learn more about you and what you may be seeking from psychotherapy and answer any questions you may have.
How do I schedule a therapy appointment?
Please contact us via email at info@purejoypsych.com or call our office at (832) 409-1270. You can also submit a message here.
How long are appointments? Where are appointments held?
Psychotherapy appointments are 45 to 50 minutes. I currently have availability for telehealth appointments
What is your therapeutic style?
I have an eclectic style meaning that I frequently pull different aspects of different types of therapy depending on patient’s presenting complaint or need. Generally, I do approach psychotherapy from an interdisciplinary, holistic, and systems theory approach. I emphasize a person’s overall well-being and recognize the many other factors that effect the person on a daily basis (family, work, spiritual life, health, access to resources and care, etc.).
Do you accept insurance?
I am considered an out-of-network service provider and do not participate with or accept payment from insurance companies. Clients are responsible for fees at the time of service. Upon payment, we can provide a Superbill that you can submit to your insurer for any eligible reimbursement.
Do you offer sliding scale appointments?
Yes, we do have several reserved spots for sliding scale patients. Additionally, we partner with Open Path, a nonprofit organization that provides affordable mental health services to members of the community. Availability for these spots is on a first-come, first-served basis, and they may vary based on my current caseload. It's important to reach out as soon as possible to explore your options.
I am also in-network with some managed care networks and some EAPs including Spring Health and Mines and Associates.
